Who am I?

Some days, I am astonished at how I am now living a peaceful, fulfilling life, being authentically me. As a young adult, I was always in a hyper-aroused state, ready to fight, cry, and run. People's perceptions of me were incorrect; they saw me as unapproachable and arrogant. However, I was untrusting, scared, and simply trying to survive. The tragic death of my father, having to support my family, and staying in a toxic marriage showed up through weight loss, heartburn, anxiety, lack of sleep, and muscle aches to name a few.

At that time, I didn't have any coping skills. I lived in shame and doubt. I honestly believed I created this mess and shall live in it now. The straw broke the camel's back when I felt I only had two options: change my life or self-medicate (drink to numb). I chose to change.

With counselling, I realized my strength. I faced my fears and made significant changes. I became a single mom and began an amazing professional career path. I bought a farm. (Yes, single mom with two kids running a farm.) The more I learned about myself, the more empowered I became. I implemented simple daily habits to boost my confidence, such as daily yoga and meditation practice, and my ability to adapt to stress drastically improved. Slowly, I became a healthy human. I am no longer anxious, and the heartburn has disappeared - all signs of a healthier nervous system. These learnings pushed me on a new career path. I went back to school in 2013 and became a counsellor. I started my practice incorporating all the lessons learned professionally and through life experiences.

My therapeutic approach is not just about talk therapy. I incorporate tools to help you become fully present and aware. When you and your body feel safe – you can gain the ability to bring real change into your life. The vagus nerve is the body's superpower. A healthy vagal tone makes you more likely to lead a successful life. A healthy nervous system equals reduced stress and anxiety, better sleep, calmness, more compassion, and better decision-making. My history has gifted me resources that I can share with you - easy strategies to incorporate into your daily routine, allowing you to live life to the fullest with an understanding of what it takes to be a healthy human.
